OceanPulse on Android has the same charts, forecasts, and tools as on iPhone and iPad, and the guides cover both. Where Android works differently, a guide says so in a note marked On Android.

Find your way around#
The guides name the iPhone’s buttons. On Android:
- The sidebar: on a phone, tap ☰ at the top left. On a tablet held sideways it stays open at the left, as on iPad.
- The … button is ⋮.
- The Settings and Support menu is ⋮ at the top right of Home.
- Back steps back through the chart’s sheet, and closes the screen or card you opened.
- Low Power Mode is Battery Saver.
Notifications#
OceanPulse uses notifications for three things:
- Track Recording: a recording, or a route under way, with Pause and Save for recordings.
- Offline Chart Downloads: a chart’s download progress.
- Forecast Alerts: an alert’s conditions lining up.
OceanPulse asks to send notifications the first time it needs to. If you don’t see them, open your phone’s Settings → Apps → OceanPulse → Notifications and turn them on. Each kind can be turned off or changed on its own there.
Battery settings#
To save battery, phones from Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, and others can stop apps running in the background, which can end a recording or a route overnight. Before a passage, or if a recording stops while your phone is locked, set OceanPulse’s battery use to Unrestricted. The menus differ by phone and Android version:
- Google Pixel: Settings → Apps → OceanPulse → App battery usage → Unrestricted.
- Samsung: Settings → Apps → OceanPulse → Battery → Unrestricted. Then check that OceanPulse isn’t listed under Settings → Battery → Background usage limits → Sleeping apps or Deep sleeping apps.
- Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO: Settings → Apps → Manage apps → OceanPulse → Battery saver → No restrictions, and turn on Autostart.
- OnePlus: Settings → Apps → OceanPulse → Battery usage, and allow background activity.
Your data#
On Android, your markers, routes, tracks, saved places, vessel, and settings are kept on the phone or tablet you made them on. They don’t sync between devices, and they aren’t included in Android’s backup, so they don’t move to a new phone. To keep a copy of a track, route, or marker, share it as a GPX file to Drive or Files. Uninstalling OceanPulse deletes them.
GPX files and links#
To bring a GPX file in, open it from Files, Gmail, Drive, or your downloads and choose OceanPulse, share it to OceanPulse from another app, or tap Settings on Coastal Charts, then Import GPX.
Shared OceanPulse links open in the app. If one opens in your browser instead, open Settings → Apps → OceanPulse → Open by default and turn on Open supported links.
Subscriptions#
On Android, OceanPulse Pro is bought through Google Play. To manage or cancel it, open the Google Play app, tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
