Coverage
See where every source reaches
OceanPulse brings together NOAA charts, forecast models, wave and current models, live radar, satellite clouds, and marine safety bulletins. Each covers a different part of the world.
The map needs JavaScript and WebGL. Every source's coverage is described in the list.
Charts
-
Official NOAA chart data, drawn sharp at every zoom in Coastal Charts and free to download for offline use. Every chart cell OceanPulse ships is on the map.
Coverage: The US, the Great Lakes, and US territories.
Free, with no chart fees
NOAA Office of Coast Survey
-
The Corps of Engineers' electronic charts of the inland rivers, drawn in Coastal Charts alongside NOAA's: the channel, river-mile markers, lights and beacons, dams and lock gates, bridges with their clearances, and wing dikes. River depths are measured from each river's low-water reference level, not a tidal datum.
Coverage: The Mississippi, Ohio, Tennessee, Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, and 15 more rivers.

Forecast models
-
NOAA's global weather model. Wind, gusts, rain, cloud, air temperature, and CAPE in Weather Maps, the wind overlay on the chart, and the GFS rows of Tables & Graphs.
Coverage: The whole world, land and sea.

NOAA National Centers for Environmental Prediction
-
The European Centre's global weather model. The same layers as GFS in Weather Maps and the chart's wind overlay, and the ECMWF rows of Tables & Graphs, so you can compare the two.
Coverage: The whole world, land and sea.

ECMWF's AI weather model, a third opinion next to the physics models. Wind, rain, cloud, and air temperature in Weather Maps and Tables & Graphs; it doesn't forecast gusts or CAPE.
Coverage: The whole world, land and sea.

Waves
-
NOAA's WAVEWATCH III wave model, for wave height in Weather Maps and the wave overlay on the chart.
Coverage: The oceans from about 12°S to 52.5°N. It doesn't reach the Southern Ocean or the far north.

Currents
-
NOAA's ocean model, for current speed in Weather Maps and the current overlay on the chart. It shows the big ocean currents, like the Gulf Stream, not the tide.
Coverage: All the world's oceans.

Sea temperature
-
NOAA's daily map of the sea's surface temperature, measured by several satellites, with the gaps under cloud filled in. It's the Sea Temp layer in Weather Maps and on the chart, and the Blended row of Tables & Graphs.
Coverage: All the world's oceans, out to the polar ice.

Radar
-
Live rain from NOAA's radar network, combined by the National Severe Storms Laboratory. It drives Rain Radar and the radar overlay on the chart.
Coverage: The contiguous US and its surrounding waters, out to parts of southern Canada and the Bahamas. Alaska as far as its radars reach, from the Southeast to the Bering Strait. Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, and Guam and the nearby Mariana Islands.
